AKG for S8

The “premium” throw-ins for Samsung phones; well built (if a tad plasticy), though fit is a bit finicky. V-shaped and a little bright, with a bit of emphasis on the well-extended highs—vocals and drums sound clean and natural. Bass is visceral but lacking in depth, quantity and definition, while mids are unsullied but flat and kinda lifeless. These image quite well, with considerable space between the performers, though the soundstage has more height than width. Overall clarity and resolution are quite good, discernibly better than peers like the Quadbeat and Piston, though they’re somewhat lacking in character and drive, as if tuned for competence rather than excellence.

A decent spare pair at the <$20 street price, though vastly outgunned at the $99 SRP.
